Razing the WA7SVC Tower

Bill had already sold his house and moved out by the time we showed up to remove the antenna. His stipulation was that we make sure there was nothing visible above ground level when we were done. He had a Hy-Gain TH3MkIII tribander beam on top of a Rohn tower with a Cornell Dubler rotator. The tower itself consisted of a 10 section on a hinged base, topped by a 6 foot mast adapter, and an approximately 10 foot mast.

We took the antenna down on January 17, 2003. Bill was supposed to either be coming by, or to have one of his kids come by, to let us into the house to disconnect the rotator cable and coax. However, nobody showed up and we wound up having to chop the lines right where they went into the house. I came by a few days later when Bill was there, to pull the lines through from the other side and to pick up the rotator controller box.

Bill had rotated the antenna so that we would be able to lay it down without bending any elements. Unfortunately, he only eyeballed the alignment and it wasn't quite straight, so we couldn't drop it all the way down so that it rested on the end of the boom. As a result, we had to lean a ladder up against it precariously to unbolt the antenna to remove it from the mast. Everything thing went smoothly after that.
